JAILA
VANDERHORST.

About
I am Jaila Vanderhorst, a senior at the University of Georgia majoring in Entertainment Media Studies and minoring in Film. For much of my high school and early college years, I pursued STEM, considering it more practical and pragmatic, even though creativity has always been at the core of who I am.

After a period of deep reflection and encouragement from my Mom, I made the decision to commit to my passion in storytelling and creative work. Since making this switch, I have found a creative home in combining the practical with the inventive in producing projects, like Sub Conscious.

There is so much I love about entertainment media; whether it’s the creative production or critical analysis, I am always motivated and curious in gaining experience, and learning from those around me.

Projects
Sub ConsciouS
Watch Episode One, “Bread, Sweat, & Tears” Now!
As writer, producer, co-creator, co-director, and co-editor, I worked on “Sub Conscious.” This is a short webisode series about a misfit crew who works the overnight shift at sub shop Sub Conscious, dealing with the craziness of night life. But when they accidentally get entangled in a criminal underworld, they are now stuck between shady customers, a possibly kidnapped boss, and their own questionable choices.

BACKLIGHT STUDENT
FILM FESTIVAL
Selection Committee Member
I serve on the selection committee for the Backlight Student Film Festival, a competitive short film festival which showcases work from college filmmakers across the state of Georgia. As a member of the selection committee, I screen and review films to help determine which films advance in the festival process.
Made With Love
Script Supervisor
I worked as the script supervisor on “Made with Love,” directed and written by classmate, Taylor Shults. I oversaw the shot list and continuity across 10+ scenes, producing detailed script notes to aid in editing.

JOY: REDEFINING
BLACK MALE EXPERIENCES
Video Editor
I edited the short film documentary, “Joy: Redefining Black Male Experience,” directed by Tyra Hill. By cutting down 2+ hours of raw footage and collaborating with Hill, we were able to create a documentary that illuminates the often overlooked and underappreciated component of the black male in America - Joy.
